Dining at Metropole in Downtown Beirut

Valentine is near so we started going to cozy romantic places to prepare a restaurant list to make it easier for you to choose a location for the 14th of February. Our recent visit was to Metropole, a brasserie in Downtown Mina el Hosn, next to the Four Seasons hotel.
The restaurant has a beautiful terrace with little fire chimneys to keep you warm and comfortable plus a spacious vintage interior with red leather sofas, wooden walls, dim lights and classical Christmas songs playing in the background.

The menu is typically french including salads, appetizers, steaks, moules, a hamburger, many other main platters and of course a big selection of desserts.

• We started with the Chicken Caesar salad. It was very delicious and refreshing. It contained thin slices of chicken, croutons and shaved Parmesan on a bed of Iceberg lettuce with a Caesar sauce. The lettuce slices were extremely fresh, the chicken slices were perfectly marinated and cooked till crispiness and the parmesan had a great quality. We would have preferred if the sauce was a little bit more as well as the croutons. Other than that we loved the salad.
• As main platters we had the Gourmet Hamburger. It was not up to the standards of Metropole, it was more of a Lebanese style burger with ketchup, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. The patty was thick and juicy but tasteless, the bun was very good but the big amount of ketchup spread on it made it loose its deliciousness. The fries that accompanied the burger were amazing since they were very crispy and not oily.

A French restaurant is the perfect place to have desserts, especially the pain perdu or Bread Pudding as they name it.
It was good but not the best we had. The bread seemed very dry as if it needed more butter or something that makes it juicier. It was also tasteless. We only felt the caramel sauce and the vanilla ice cream that made it enjoyable. Balthazar remains the best restaurant in terms of Pain Perdu.

We enjoyed our experience at Metrople although we expected more from the food and the service.

Average price: 40$ per person.
